What Washington Republicans Don't Understand

In the midst of the debt crisis we are now going through, it is clear that Republicans in Washington don't understand the basic economics of the average American household. The Republican solution to this crisis is simple -- cut expenditures. The average American understands something these folks don't.

In our households, if we are lacking enough money to keep our household financially afloat, we do TWO, not just one, things. Not only do we try to cut our expenditures (turning lights off when they aren't needed, buying 50% off sale meat at Safeway, not going out to eat, and eating pasta instead of steak), but we go out and get a second job. Millions and millions of Americans work part time before or after their full-time jobs. They try to increase their income.

In the present debt crisis, the equivalent of this would be to tax the very, very wealthy at a higher rate than they are presently taxed. Washington is out of touch. And as a result, all this nation's students will suffer. Classrooms will be more crowded, funds for many programs will be eliminated, teachers will lose jobs, and those graduating from high school will find it financially more difficult to attend college.
